Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. (Proverbs 3:8-9 KJV)
In all that we do seek the Lord. Yeah, sure…We can do things on “our own” and think that we’re wise in our current choice of action. And, perhaps it might be okay for the time being–but the truth of it is, eventually, the consequences of our actions will probably wind up on our doorsteps of life.
What I mean by that is, we aren’t wise in our “own eyes” –instead it is through His wisdom and His word that we attain the ability to handle things judiciously. But, only because of Him. He is in control and on the throne.
There is evil in this world, and it circulates around on a daily basis. Corruption is within the grasp as it swirls about– it is up to us as children of the only living God to turn from it. Which is to say, the things of the world, items of the world which can be anything from an overly materialistic self-absorbed lifestyle, to being addicted or abosorbed in something other than God. It could be the love of a “car, computer, sports” or worse- anything that takes us away from God.
I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with being involved in sports and cheering for your team, or being immersed at times in the computer, or the infamous texting that goes on everywhere. What I’m addressing is…over consumption that takes us away from God and into the realm of the “worldly activities” that can be dangerous. It can become akin to “idol” worship in the comparative sense.
When we face the world, we can’t go out unclothed. We must put on the gospel armor and wear our helmet of salvation proudly and faithfully. We must gird outselves with the truth, and hold our sword (His Word) up high. That is out battlefield of defense. To be armed with His word is the life force and marrow to our bones. So we won’t be deceived or pulled into the ambiguity of the world which can seem harmless at times. Don’t be deceived…be prepared.
He is the provider of substance and the synergy in which we exist. He is the Sovereign King of the Universe. He is the answer to all of our troubles, complexities, and our infinite joy. He is everything…
The verse from Proverbs 3:8-9 is powerful, and has been since the beginning of time. And, yet—it is even more potent today given the state of affairs in which the world is in.
Health to thy navel…Marrow to thy bones…Life everlasting.
Have you asked Him for advice? Have you taken the time to hang out with Him and speak to Him about what’s going on in your life today?
Try it…then get ready for a powerful burst of life and love~
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart. (Proverbs 3:3 KJV)
Proverbs 8:35
For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
